FV Gives Back; Free a Girl

At Federal Violet we believe we can make a change, even as a small business.
We are strongly committed to help others in need and strive to give back to our global community.

As you may have read on our website, we donate €1 of your purchase to charity. The donations are made every three months and to different charities each time.

With the support of our dear customers, we were able to make our first donation to a great charity called Free a Girl

ABOUT FREE A GIRL

RESCUE
Free a Girl supports activist organizations around the world that work tirelessly to rescue girls from situations of sexual exploitation.

Two million children around the world, mostly girls, are trapped in sexually exploitative situations. They are locked up and exploited in brothels, massage parlors or garages, among other places.

Free a Girl is campaigning hard to rescue these children. They make every effort to ensure that their exploiters are brought to justice.

They support rescue teams in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Nepal, the Netherlands, China and Thailand. Since the start of Free a Girl they have managed to rescue 5000 children in 7 different countries.

AFTERCARE
Every child who has been sexually exploited is traumatized by the horrors they have experienced. To achieve sustainable rescue results in the long term and tackle impunity, Free a Girl must ensure that the victims end up in a safe situation. For this reason, they are given acute medical care and psychological assistance to process their traumas, and to prevent them from becoming victims again.

TACKLING IMPUNITY
As long as children are being exploited and don’t dare to report the crimes, Free a Girl won’t give up the fight. Nor will we stop until the perpetrators are punished systematically. In order to bring about lasting change, Free a Girl is therefore working with local project partners to tackle impunity. Our activities include:

  • Providing legal support to victims when reporting crimes and during what are often difficult legal processes, so that the perpetrators can be prosecuted;
  • Informing survivors and girls in high-risk areas about their rights;
  • Boosting the mental resilience and strength of the victims;
  • Sharing information about suspects with the police;
  • Lobbying and advocacy to improve legislation;
  • Training the police and judiciary to investigate and fight child sexual exploitation.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Free a Girl works with local organizations and supports their activities, because they believe in the local expertise and capacity of their partners. They strengthen their local partners by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, and through capacity-building in fundraising and financial management. Free a Girl has also established two programs of our own:  School for Justice and Smart Rescue.

To end child sexual exploitation, they often join forces with other partners and organizations, such as the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Malala Fund.
